El Canal de Panamá abre un acceso público a la información
En 1914, cuando navegó el primer barco por el Canal de Panamá era impensable imaginar cuántos otros transitarían por él hasta nuestros días. En este país centroamericano 105 años después, han desarrollado una aplicación para móviles de acceso público nombrada Infologística Panamá que permite obtener datos de las naves que recorren a través del istmo que enlaza el océano atlántico con el pacífico.
La trascendencia histórica desde que el primer barco recorría el Canal de Panamá ha permitido ver la evolución de un país y el comercio que utiliza esta conexión para mejorar tiempos, costos de traslado de cargas, y por ende, la economía mundial.
El período entre octubre de 2018 y marzo 2019, dejó registro de más de mil (1.000) naves en tránsito por mes a través del canal, lo que verifica lo concurrido del estrecho marítimo. El gerente de Georgia Tech, empresa que desarrolló la aplicación, considera importante compilar información de los barcos y múltiples fuentes económicas en un solo lugar, con fácil y rápido acceso.
En la búsqueda de mejorar la competitividad del país desde la tecnología. La aplicación en materia de transporte y logística, por ejemplo, puede mostrar el transito acumulado de naves entre períodos, las toneladas de carga y los ingresos económicos.
La herramienta tecnológica además, permite revisar gráficas comparativas y datos como: la tasa de inflación, PIB, precio de la gasolina, conectividad marítima y actividad aeroportuaria, entre otros.
Para el estado panameño y el Canal de Panamá como empresa, es una gran innovación por ser esta de las compañías más sólidas y productivas del país con un ingreso aproximado de 3.100 millones de dólares en su mayoría por pago de peaje.

Revisar indicadores con periodicidad permite la mejor toma de decisiones en los negocios, por eso la influencia de esta aplicación que ha fomentado nuevos planes para la creación de proyectos similares en materia logística que puedan dejar cifras en áreas de carga, tránsito y almacenamiento.

The Panama Canal opens a public access to information

Una ventaja competitiva real: no es lo mismo proclamar “somos buena onda” que demostrarlo con evidencia.
Cómo se hace en la práctica (sin quemarse)
No requieres un equipo de RRHH enorme. Hoy, las soluciones son alcanzables:
Encuestas anónimas digitales: lo más efectivo desde 2020. La regla es blindar el resguardo identitario para que la gente hable sin temor.
Pulsos cortos: en vez de una encuesta larga cada 12 meses, lanza una pregunta semanal breve por apps de RRHH.
Talleres focalizados: la herramienta top. Revelan lo que difícilmente saldría por correo: roces entre áreas, problemas con mandos medios, procesos que nadie entiende.
Conversaciones directas con equipos fuera de Santiago: su mirada suele quedar fuera. Una llamada puede visibilizar problemas de comunicación que pasarían colados en una encuesta.
El detalle clave: el diagnóstico no puede ser un teatro. Tiene que volverse en un programa concreto con objetivos, encargados y fechas. Si no, es puro powerpoint.
Errores que en Chile se repiten (y matan el proceso)
Ofrecer mejoras y no hacer nada: los colaboradores chilenos lo detectan al tiro; puro humo.
No asegurar el confidencialidad: en estructuras muy jerárquicas, el miedo a represalias es real.
Calcar encuestas gringas: hay que aterrizar el lenguaje a la cultura interna.
Tomar una foto y olvidarse: el clima cambia tras reestructuraciones clave; hay que monitorear de forma regular.

Tourists fined and banned from Venice for swimming in canal

A couple from the United Kingdom had to cut their vacation in Venice short after being caught swimming in the Grand Canal.
The 35-year-old British man and his 25-year-old Romanian girlfriend were forced to return to their home in the UK on Thursday, the same day they arrived in the city, after gondoliers reported them to local police for taking a dip in the canal.
The pair were fined €450 ($529) each and expelled from Venice for 48 hours, marking the 1,136th such sanction to be handed down to badly behaved tourists in the city so far this year, according to the Venice City Police.
The unnamed couple took the plunge near the Accademia bridge near St. Mark’s Square and gondoliers at the Rio San Vidal kiosk immediately called authorities, who removed them from the water.
“I thank the gondoliers for their cooperation and timely reporting,” said Venice Security Councillor Elisabetta Pesce in a statement published by city authorities on Friday.

“Venice must be defended from those who disrespect it: protecting the city means ensuring decorum for residents and visitors who experience it with civility.”
Swimming in the Venice canals is prohibited for a variety of reasons, including the intense boat traffic and the cleanliness — or lack thereof — of the water, according to the city’s tourism ministry.
Of the 1,136 orders of expulsion from the city so far this year, about 10 were for swimming.

“Since the beginning of the year, we have issued a total of 1,136 orders of expulsion for incidents of degradation and uncivilized behavior,” Venice local police deputy commander Gianni Franzoi said in a statement shared with CNN.
Poor visitor behavior is one of the worst byproducts of overtourism, Franzoi said, and incidents are on the rise.
In July 2024, an Australian man was fined and expelled for diving off the Rialto Bridge after his friends posted about it on social media.
The year before, two French tourists were fined and expelled for skinny dipping in the canal under the moonlight. In August 2022, a German man was fined and expelled for surfing in the canal.

Venice’s authorities have been trying to balance the need for visitor income with residents’ demands for a city that works for them.
Day trippers now pay a €10 entrance fee on summer weekends and during busy periods throughout the year.
The city has also banned tour groups of more than 25 people, loudspeakers and megaphones, and even standing on narrow streets to listen to tour guides.
“It was necessary to establish a system of penalties that would effectively deter potential violations,” Pesce said when the ordinance was passed in February.
“Our goal remains to combat all forms of irregularities related to overtourism in the historic lagoon city center,” she added.
“The new rules for groups accompanied by guides encourage a more sustainable form of tourism, while also ensuring greater protection and safety in the city and better balancing the needs of Venice residents and visitors.”
